What 80 teams will ship
Name the obvious product in twenty minutes. Print it. Then refuse it. The corner is usually one constraint off the prompt.
If the model can generate your idea in one shot, so can everyone else. That is not a coincidence. That is the field.
Thesis
Why this paper exists
Climate, health, education, fintech — each prompt has a canonical loser. Winning is almost never 'more of that'. It is adjacent.
- Generate the obvious field on purpose
- Step one constraint off it, not into space
- Use the model as a field detector, not as a visionary
Print the field
Sit down and write what 80 teams will ship. Climate: a carbon tracker. Health: a symptom chatbot. Education: an AI tutor. Internal tools: a dashboard. Fintech: a budgeting app with a cute name. If you cannot write this list, you have not looked at the prompt.
Then ask the model for ten ideas. The overlap between your list and its list is the kill zone. Do not build in the kill zone.
One step off
The corner is not a new category. It is the prompt plus one real constraint the brochure ignored. Dining-hall waste is not an IoT bin. It is leftover claims at 20:40 when pride is cheap. A nurse handover tool is not twelve features. It is the three facts the night nurse is scared of missing.
Ask: who is embarrassed, late, or blamed. Build for that person at that minute. The 80 teams will build for 'users'.
The model as weather
Treat the model like a weather report of consensus. Useful. Not a compass. If your idea surprises the model, you might have a corner — or you might be incoherent. Distinguish by asking a human who has been in that room.
The move: generate the obvious, kill it in public (on your own whiteboard), then take the adjacent step. Your teammates should see the corpses. It prevents nostalgia for the kill zone.
Drill
For any live brief, write the 80-team product in one line. Ask a model for ten ideas. Strike every overlap. Write one adjacent sentence that could not have come from the overlap.
