Sunday: story, screenshot, stillness
Saturday is for making a thing true. Sunday morning is for making a thing hold still. Most teams keep building and donate the room.
After the happy path works once, stop adding truth. Start adding stillness. The room cannot hold more truth than a sentence.
Thesis
Why this paper exists
The last six hours are where prizes move. They move toward teams who rehearse, not teams who open another ticket.
- Freeze scope when the happy path exists
- Rehearse the opening until it is boring
- Leave with a screenshot that carries the argument alone
The freeze
The happy path works on the demo machine. That is the freeze. Not 'mostly works'. Works. From that minute, new features are a tax on the opening sentence. Someone on the team is the closer: they own freeze, script, still frame, and the laptop that will be on the table.
If you do not name a closer, the most anxious builder will keep building. Anxiety looks like virtue. It is not.
Rehearse until bored
Say the opening standing up, with the laptop, with the backup film cued. Three times. Then once more after someone interrupts with 'this already exists'. If your answer to that line is not already a sentence, you do not have an answer.
Boredom is the point. Adrenaline will steal 30% of your polish. What remains should still be a story.
The still frame
One image: before / after, or a card a human would actually hold, or a number that moved. No chrome, no six charts, no team photo. This is also what you post, what the organiser's photographer takes, and what a judge reverse-remembers at 17:10.
If the still frame needs a caption of more than twelve words, it is not still. Cut until a stranger could guess the sentence.
Drill
Tonight, freeze an unfinished thing. Write the opening four sentences. Take one still frame. Rehearse once out loud. Notice the urge to reopen the editor and refuse it for twenty minutes.
